Renewable Energy for Total filling stations Liberia

Security is a problem at TOTAL filling stations when it gets dark. As source of electricity, the filling stations are using diesel generators. After 10:00pm, the generators are switched off to safe fuel, leaving the filling stations in total darkness.

EnDev/GIZ and TOTAL Liberia signed a MoU to install solar systems at three TOTAL filling stations. The new systems, that were installed at the end of 2017, provide light and security is now improved.
For the future, it is planned to install solar systems at another 27 filling stations in cooperation with the private sector.

The 18th of July 2018 marks the 100th birthday anniversary of Nelson Mandela, the first black president of South Africa.  Mandela spent 27 of his formative years in prison for engaging in the quest for equality and freedom through peaceful means.  He served as an example for the whole world to overcome injustice and hatred.

The Embassy of the Republic of South Africa on this day dedicated a solar system to light up the Great Commission Orphanage in Gardnesville.

Too many Liberian women die or lose their child while giving birth. To ensure that midwifes in rural Grand Gedeh have light when women come to their small facilities at night, solar technicians from GIZ/EnDev visited health facilities and repaired or installed solar systems.

We conducted a Regional Water Boiling Test (RWBT) with a prototype for an institutional cookstove. This test is the beginning of a series of tests to build a prototype which fulfills the EnDev criteria of 40% less specific fuel consumption, compared to the baseline stove which is a 3-stone-fire. The RWBT simulates a cooking situation through water boiling. However, this does not represent an actual cooking situation. We need to keep this in mind when we interpret the test results.
